Oh Boy, The Minecraft Movie

I genuinely feel bad for those involved in this film. I’m worried. Are they okay? Do they know what they’ve created? A movie like what’s presented in this trailer has to be the result of the worst development hell I’ve ever seen. Instead of going a more traditional route, like the LEGO movies, with 3D animation and a cartoon style, we have live action with photo realistic 3D. I’ll try to put it gently here…that was a choice.

Perhaps they really wanted the A-list cast to shine through and bring this little-known Minecraft game into the spotlight? Or maybe more than that target audience won’t really care, and this way is cheaper? I have so many more questions than answers on this one, so I’ll leave you to watch the trailer to see for yourself first.

Now let’s never talk about this moment again. Go watch the LEGO movie, or Sonic the Hedgehog, or…anything with Adam Sandler. I can generally forgive Jack Black’s overly obtuse “Jackness” but here he looks like he’s going to try to steal the show like in the Mario Movie. I can’t tell you how many times that Peaches song has sent me to the edge of a mental break.

Okay, Fine I’ll Stop

This might flop. I’m okay with it. We deserve movies that reflect the community of the game while keeping what makes that game unique and fun. The Sims Movie might be going in a similar direct but that remains to be seen. I’ll get the popcorn buckets ready.
